Zaatar 50g Spice Blend
Zaatar 50g Spice Blend-Tangy, Herby, Nutty — And Ready to Sprinkle Straight from the Pack
Some spice blends require a whole recipe.
Zaatar doesn't.
This iconic Levantine seasoning combines earthy thyme, tangy sumac and toasted sesame seeds to create a flavour that's herbal, citrusy, nutty and savoury all at once.
And one of its biggest advantages is its simplicity.
You don't have to cook with it at all.
Sprinkle Zaatar over eggs, avocado, hummus, yoghurt or salads, or mix it with olive oil and spread it over warm bread.
Of course, you can cook with it too — use it on chicken, fish, vegetables, potatoes and much more.

No cooking required
Open the pack and sprinkle it straight onto finished food.
Tangy, herbal and nutty in one blend
Sumac, thyme and sesame each bring something completely different to the flavour.
A classic Middle Eastern pantry staple
Zaatar is widely used across Levantine cooking and is particularly associated with countries including Lebanon and Jordan.
Perfect with olive oil
One of the simplest ways to enjoy it is also one of the best: Zaatar, good olive oil and warm bread.
Far more versatile than it first appears
Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and dips can all benefit from it.
What Does Zaatar Taste Like?
Zaatar is herbal, tangy, savoury and nutty rather than hot.
Thyme gives the blend its earthy herbal character.
Sumac provides the distinctive bright, citrus-like tang.
Toasted sesame seeds add nuttiness and texture.
Together, they create a seasoning that tastes fresh and complex without relying on chilli.
It's particularly useful when food needs brightness and flavour rather than heat.
How to Use Zaatar
The Classic: Zaatar & Olive Oil
Mix Zaatar with good-quality extra virgin olive oil to form a loose paste.
Spread it over warm pita or flatbread.
It's one of the simplest ways to experience what makes this blend so distinctive.
Labneh, Yoghurt & Hummus
Generously sprinkle over labneh, Greek yoghurt or hummus and finish with olive oil.
Eggs
Sprinkle over fried, poached or scrambled eggs for a quick savoury breakfast.
Avocado Toast
Use Zaatar instead of ordinary salt and pepper to add herbs, tang and sesame crunch.
Roast Vegetables
Toss cauliflower, potatoes, carrots, pumpkin or zucchini with olive oil and Zaatar before roasting.
Chicken, Lamb & Fish
Use it as a dry seasoning or combine it with oil and lemon for an easy marinade.
A Seasoning You Can Keep on the Table
Zaatar doesn't have to live hidden away in your spice cupboard.
Because it requires no cooking, it can be treated much more like a finishing seasoning.
Put it on the table alongside salt and pepper and try it over whatever you're eating.
Eggs need something extra?
Add Zaatar.
Plain hummus?
Add Zaatar.
Avocado toast feeling repetitive?
Add Zaatar.
Vegetables need more flavour?
Add Zaatar.
Open. Sprinkle. Eat.
That's part of what makes this ancient blend so useful in a modern kitchen.
Why These Three Ingredients Work So Well Together
The beauty of Zaatar is the contrast.
Thyme brings earthiness and aroma.
Sumac brings brightness and tang.
Sesame brings nuttiness and texture.
Instead of buying and adding each separately, they're already balanced together in one blend.
That means even something as simple as bread and olive oil can suddenly become much more interesting.
Try It This Way
Pour a little extra virgin olive oil into a bowl and stir through enough Zaatar to create a loose, spreadable mixture.
Spoon it onto warm pita or flatbread.
Or make an even quicker version: drizzle olive oil over toasted bread and sprinkle Zaatar generously over the top.
That's it.
No complicated recipe required.
