Information
Recipe for Mustard yellow Flour
Classic Yellow Mustard Recipe
(Makes about 1 cup)
Ingredients:
-
½ cup yellow mustard flour (powder)
-
½ cup cold water
-
¼ cup white vinegar (or apple cider vinegar for a milder taste)
-
1 tsp salt
-
1 tsp turmeric (for bright yellow color)
-
½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
-
½ tsp onion powder (optional)
-
1 tsp sugar or honey (optional, for slight sweetness)
-
1 tbsp olive oil or vegetable oil (optional, for smoother texture)
Instructions:
-
Mix mustard flour & water – In a bowl, whisk together mustard powder and cold water until smooth. Let sit for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to develop.
-
Add vinegar & seasonings – Stir in vinegar, salt, turmeric, garlic powder, onion powder, and sugar (if using).
-
Adjust consistency – For a smoother texture, blend in olive oil. If too thick, add a little more water or vinegar.
-
Rest & mellow – Let the mustard sit for at least 1 hour (or overnight) in the fridge to allow the flavors to meld and the heat to mellow.
-
Store – Transfer to an airtight jar or bottle. Keeps in the fridge for up to 1 month.
Tips:
-
For spicier mustard, use less vinegar or let it sit for only 30 minutes before using.
-
For milder mustard, add a bit more honey or sugar.
-
For whole-grain mustard, mix in 1-2 tbsp mustard seeds before resting.
