Recipe For cooking White basmati Rice

White Basmati Rice (2 Servings)

Prep Time: 5 mins | Cook Time: 15 mins | Total Time: 20 mins

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup white Basmati rice (rinsed well)

  • ¾ cup water (or broth for extra flavor)

  • ½ tbsp butter or ghee (optional, for richness)

  • ¼ tsp salt (adjust to taste)

  • Optional: 1 cardamom pod, 1 clove, or bay leaf (for fragrance)

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the rice:

    • Place rice in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse under cold water until the water runs clear (removes excess starch for fluffier grains).

  2. Soak (optional but recommended):

    • Soak rice in water for 15–20 mins, then drain. (Reduces cooking time and improves texture.)

  3. Cook:

    • In a small saucepan, melt butter/ghee (if using) over medium heat.

    • Add drained rice and optional spices (cardamom, clove). Sauté 1 min to toast lightly (enhances aroma).

    • Add ¾ cup water and salt. Bring to a full boil.

    • Immediately reduce heat to low, cover tightly, and simmer for 12–15 mins (no peeking!).

  4. Rest & fluff:

    • Turn off heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 mins. Then fluff gently with a fork.

Yield: ~1.5 cups cooked rice (ideal for 2 servings).
